Our First Steps
WE ARE
We are working hard to provide services to our families and close service delivery gaps in our community.
WE ARE TAKING ONE STEP AT A TIME AND ARE CONFIDENT WE WILL REACH OUR GOAL
FOR THE FAMILIES OF CENTRAL FLORIDA
ENGAGING
our FAMILIES
To start the journey we first engage families of children with emotional, behavioral and mental health needs. We engage families by providing a non-judgmental environment, actively listen and supporting these families. We accomplish this by providing:

Family peer support. Staff with “lived experience” walking this journey with you who have personally faced the challenges of coping with serious mental health conditions as a caregiver.
Collaborate with family-run and other child serving organizations to transform mental health care in Central Florida.
Provide resources and help families obtain the needed support(s) to help them lead healthy lives and maximize their potential.

Participate in resource fairs, provide workshops/trainings for families.
IEP assistance and advocacy and Warm-line support.
Lean on Me Support Groups (English/Spanish) including a Grandparents/Grandfamilies Group and Dads Time.
Creating a platform for families to share their stories.
Provide day respite to Orange County families actively involved with Federation of Families (days/hours vary).

The need in Central Florida for the families of children with mental health challenges is overwhelming. The families have identified several service delivery gaps and FFCFL is committed and passionate in providing and/or collaborating with other agencies in order to meet the needs of the families:

A children’s respite center that would provide a safe and supportive environment on a short-term basis for children with mental health conditions when their families need relief.
Our first step is to raise funds toward the development of a respite center.
* This includes the most important step of locating a building -- a minimum of 10,000 square feet. Preferably a donated building or a discounted price.
* Projected budget: $800,000
To create after school program/setting for children with emotional, behavioral and mental health challenges. A program where the children feel safe and are not victims of bullying because of their uniqueness.
